First, for an excellent description of the various building blocks of radio circuitry, seek out the Vintage Radio Repair and Restoration web page.
Meanwhile, heres a couple of techie items :-
Alignment | During alignment it is necessary to connect a signal generator to the aerial input of the radio. However, a "dummy" aerial circuit should be placed between the signal generator and the aerial input. In the case of frame aerials, which also form part of the aerial input tuned circuit, a slightly different approach is required. |
Synchrodyne and Homodyne |
These are systems of demodulation for amplitude-modulated signals. Not a popular system but an alternative to the more popular T.R.F. and superhetrodyne systems. |
4-Tube Concept | In 1939, Philips publicised research on a new 'loktal' tube, finally producing the series in 1941. You can find out more on Clement L. Goossens's "Sound In It" site. |
