MULLARD OUTLOOK
Volume 1 Number 9 : June 1951

"Our front cover picture illustrates an early stage in the manufacture of tungsten wire at the Mullard Blackburn factory.
After a complicated series of chemical processes, the coarse raw material, natural calcium tungstate, is converted into paratungstate.
In the picture, this is shown on trays before drying in a vacuum oven. After a further series of precisely controlled processes, a handful of this powder is transformed into miles of fine tungsten wire, every inch of which conforms to the most exacting standards.."
